Christmas Time

My baby girl is growing faster by the day. I am trying to enjoy all of the moments in which she still needs me or realizes that she does. We had her Dedicated to Christ on Thanksgiving Weekend at my family's church in DeKalb. Here is a picture of her with her cousin Jayden and Orlando and her Aunt Janiya. :-)

Away From Home

I have been away at a conference in Indiana since Sunday. I will be headed home tomorrow. Missing my wife and daughter very much. One of the toughest things to do is leave from home for more than a day. Even though I know sometimes it is needed, it never gets easier for me. This is usually when I go through the blog reading old posts, looking at pictures and videos.

I miss you Tawanna and Mariah. I love you. Can't wait to come home.

Many Faces

Mariah is now 15 months old. She is more curious than ever. She wants to chew on everything, open every door, drawer, or cabinet, and she is always following one of us. She is continuously evolving into her own character.

Almost there...

Good Afternoon Family and Friends,

I know it has been a while and I apologize for the delay between blogs. Mariah, Tawanna, and I are doing very well. I just thought that I would post a few pics of Mariah on the day after she had her ears pierced (Saturday). Mariah will be 1 on July 23rd. We are excited as she has grown so fast and the time has flown by.




After Mariah's birthday the blog will resume with general posts. Many of them will pertain to family.

10 Months

A couple of weeks ago Tawanna and I went to Puerto Rico for four days. Mariah stayed with my sister Taisha. We enjoyed the vacation but struggled being away from Mariah. Thanks to Taisha sending us constant pics and updates, we were at ease.

On May 23 Mariah will be 10 months. She is very active these days. She is excellent at crawling backwards, rolling over, sitting up, standing up, etc. Often when she is in our arms she will wiggle her way down to the floor, as if she is ready to walk.

She claps a lot, especially when we are in church. She also waves hello.

Oh... her favorite book is Brown Bear. I read it to her often.

Comparisons

Mariah is progressing nicely. She is crawling backwards, eating all kinds of food, etc. What get's on my nerves is when people compare my daughter to what other baby's her age are doing or have done. For example, "His daughter has four teeth at eight months or someone's son can already walk at eight months." It gets very annoying after a while. It seems as if people are trying to say, "Mariah should have more teeth, should be walking, should be eating a bucket of chicken, etc."

If you know anything about kids, they all progress differently. Enjoy her as much as we are. She is the most beautiful person I have ever seen. Check out the new pics below.

Getting ready to go backwards

This last week has been really difficult at work. This year I have had at least four students attempt suicide. One student attempted three times. I also had a student die last week. No matter how much training your receive, nothing prepares you for this. What keeps me going at the end of each day is my daughter. She reminds of why I am here.

She is also eating lots of cheerios these days. We are beginning to put cheerios into our after daycare routing. We eat them together. She usually soaks them with slob and just swallows them. Sometime she chews them. She is getting better.

Out of Town

For the last week I have been at a conference in Seattle, Washington. After the first day in Seattle, I was ready to come back home. I have never missed my wife and daughter more. I woke Mariah and Tawanna up in the middle of the night when I returned home. Mariah stayed up and played with me for an hour then went back to sleep. The next afternoon I asked Mariah if she missed her Daddy. The video is below.

Perspective

Everything changed in October of 2007 when Tawanna told me that she was pregnant. I knew that our lives would change for the better. I knew that I would enjoy fatherhood. No matter how much joy I anticipated it can never amount to what I actually feel. Here are a few videos of Mariah below.

Six months

Mariah turned 6 months on January 23rd. It is still amazing to me how fast she is growing.

Her bottom two front teeth are fully in and she is used to them now. Her hair is still growing "mohawk" style. Her finger nails grow in so fast that I barely have time to cut them. She is turning, twisting, sitting up, and grabbing everything that moves.

Today she received her 6 month shots at the Doctor's office. The older she gets the more painful it is for me. She was a real trooper today. She whined for about two seconds. No tears. That is kind of scary. This is one tough little girl.

Well, time to finish child proofing the apartment.

Growing Up Fast 3

On the 23rd Mariah will be six months old. Pretty soon she will be running all over the place. She has moved along to number two foods and Tawanna will allow me to give her some juice this week. I hope. She stares at our plates more than she does her own. I think she wants our food, which is why her teeth are coming in now.

Her Pattern

She has a very consistent sleeping pattern for us. When I pick her up from daycare I wash her up and feed her. She takes a brief nap and then hangs out with us for a little bit. She eats again a few hours later and then goes to sleep around 8pm or 9pm. She wakes up again around 1am and goes right back to sleep, sometime after a feeding. She will then stay sleep until around 6am. Sometimes she will sleep through the 1am wake-up call and sleep until 5am. Sometimes she sleeps in her crib, sometimes our room, sometimes in the living room. The temperature normally dictates how well she sleeps.

We are planning to make a trip home sometime within the next month. We are paying close attention to the weather. We will keep everyone posted.

Looks like Daddy?

The family is doing well. Mariah's second tooth is coming in. She sucks on her gums a lot. We have gone out to eat with her twice. Both times she was pretty easy going until she started looking at our plates.


Next week I think we are going to break her into some more foods and introduce her to some juice. Tawanna is keeping me from giving her a bunch of different kinds of foods that I think she is ready for. I am trying to be patient.


Many people have discussed who Mariah looks like. I have always said that it does not matter to me. I see some of myself and Tawanna in her.

Mariah ready to crawl?

Mariah is getting closer and closer to crawling everyday. She knows how to kick her legs and she has built great arm strength. Pretty soon she will be all over the house. Check her out in the set position in the video below.
